Norhwestern Boating Council

The Northwestern Boating Council was conceived and formed in 1959 by a group of twelve Commodores who were interested in perpetuating the inter-club friendships which had developed between their organizations. In 1986 NBC recognized the interest and desire of the individual unaffiliated boater to be more informed on boating matters without having to join a boating club. The by-laws were revised in January of 1987 to support and promote membership by an individual as well as membership by a boating club.
NBC's primary goals are to promote better and safer boating, disseminate information between clubs and individuals, watch over matters of marine, outdoor recreation and taxation legislation as to its effects on boat owners and boating clubs. And to, in general, create and sustain friendships, between boaters, through friendly boating competition and inter-club events.
NBC meets five times each year at locations provided by the member clubs. Meetings are in January, March, May, September and November and are open to all members. Each year, with the help of member clubs, NBC sponsors a picnic at a marine facility. Many families consider this the highlight of their cruising season. The fourth weekend in March each year finds NBC members clearing trails, cutting firewood, repairing docks and many other tasks as they help to get one of their favorite marine parks in shape for the coming boating season. January is the month for the new President's dinner/dance, where the officers for the New Year are sworn in and perpetual trophies are awarded to individuals and clubs from activities at the previous picnic and work party.
Each year NBC publishes a current Member/Yearbook which includes contact information on individual members as well as club memberships, by-laws, a list of supporters of NBC, and a schedule of Member Club cruises and Commodore balls for the upcoming year. Detailed meeting minutes and technical information learned are forwarded to NBC Members following each meeting.
The Northwestern Boating Council is a proud member of the National Boating Federation, (NBF). This fine organization has lobbyist at the national level and monitors marine activities on a scope which a smaller organization would find difficult. Through the efforts of NBF it is now possible for NBC members to receive a “Visa” card with no annual fee. In addition NBC current members will be able to receive discounts at participating Marine Suppliers.
